16.04 Desktop, only guest appears at login

Summary: Only guest user appears at the login screen. I've CTRL-ALT-F1 and logged in as regular user, able to sudo.




I've searched this forum and keyword Google searching using proximity operators etc. No joy.



Thanks in advance, I've been using Linux for 20 years but desktops and GUIs are an odd duck.
