Can I upload binary packages to a Launchpad PPA?

Well, I have a launchpad account and a just set up a PPA.

Since I don't have generated source packages, I'd like to upload my binary packages to the PPA.

Though it seems not possible... Is there a way to avoid create source packages?

No. You can only upload source packages to a PPA, for security and licensing (open-source) reasons; Launchpad will then build it into binary packages for you.

boot - Trying to install 13.04 and computer won't detect bootable USB drive as a bootable USB drive

I have a HP computer with Windows 7 that does not operate properly. Windows only works for a few seconds to a few minutes before showing a blue screen and restarting. I am trying to install Ubuntu from a 4 GB USB stick, but when I do that it has an X next to "has at least 5.3 GB available drive space" but the computer has well over 600 GB available. I think Ubuntu thinks the USB drive is the HDD. I have been trying to install Ubuntu since this morning. I can try Ubuntu from this computer and that works fine. When I first turn on the computer and press F12 it doesn't show the USB drive as something I can boot from. Then Windows boots and when it restarts due to an error it boots Ubuntu. Does anyone have any idea of how I could fix this and get it to install on the computer?

networking - Unable to detect wifi networks in ubuntu 16.04 Realtek Semiconductor RTL8723DE device issue, their is a check mark on Enable wifi but no wifi networks

I am facing problem in detecting wifi networks, I have already gone through all the steps explained in Realtek Semiconductor RTL8723de device d723 issue. It helped and their is a check mark on enable wifi at the top right corner, but the laptop is unable to detect any network.

Kindly Help I will be greatful to you.

In your paste, we see:

rtl8723de 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for
rtlwifi/rtl8723defw.bin failed with error -2

Let's install the needed firmware and reboot. From the terminal:

cd /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
sudo wget --no-check-certificate https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new/raw/extended/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8723defw.bin

Reboot and tell us if the wireless is working.

Dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 10 with GPT

I am having a problem when I'm going to install Ubuntu 16.04. At the beginning of the installation process an error message appear telling me that I don't have enough space on my disk, these are a couple of image of the error.

Error message 1

Error message 2

If you see the images are very similar, the only difference is in the ubi-partman error code, I reviewed the /var/log/syslog file and the error is that I don't have space on the disk. After some research, some people has had this error but during the update process. I was reading that this error can happen when you hard drive is not in IDE mode, my hard drive is a SATA drive in AHCI mode and I can't change it.

My laptop is an Asus x555u and has Windows 10(Windows came already installed in the laptop) I don't want to get rid off Windows, I want to install Ubuntu alongside it. Another important information are that the table partition scheme is GPT and the Laptop boot in UEFI mode and doesn't have an option to change it to legacy, only appear an option called "Secure boot" which I already turned off, I turned off as well the windows fast start up and the hibernation option.

I run the following commands to get more information:

sudo parted -l

How can I get a DisplayLink USB monitor work under Ubuntu?

I have a DisplayLink-based external USB monitor, which has both power and data over USB, and seems to work perfectly under Windows 7, but only can display a text console under Ubuntu 10.10, and that I can only use when I am actually switched to it. So the only Use I can have so far is to have some text-based monitoring or console that I can watch while working on the graphic display.

I know there are some development done for DisplayLink, but I never could get it to actually run properly.

Yes, I tried the detailed setup described in other posts, but they did not work, and instead crashed my X that I had to restore.

Merci :-)

On Aug 3, 2015, Displaylink finally released the USB Monitor driver for Ubuntu.

Link: http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu.php

I have an AOC usb monitor and Ubuntu 14.04. After installing the driver, my usb Monitor start working.

If the driver works for your monitor, please let other people know by posting it. Many people waiting for this driver. I've been waiting for 2 years. :-)

ssh - Install a GUI on my Ubuntu Server VM

I know that this question is already asked but I still have an issue.
I am using a ssh to connect to a virtual machine via this command:

ssh -X

Of course we can only work with a terminal. Therefore I am trying to install a GUI.
I did:

sudo apt-get ubuntu-desktop

or

sudo apt-get mate-desktop

So I disconnect and connect again to the VM with ssh and still with the prompt command. How could I start with the GUI.

Then I install a XRDP like my teacher told me. But I still don't have any GUI.
However, when I just launch firefox it appears.

What can I do ?

Thanks

I fixed it like this:

echo “xfce4-session” > ~/.xsession
# /etc/init.d/xrdp start

follow this tutorial.

hdmi - Nvidia amd64 driver update (290.10 certified) impact on Optimus Systems and bumblebee?

Before installing Bumblebee, many users with optimus enabled systems, when they install the nvidia driver, this latter get on conflict with the integrated graphics driver and then remains inactive. One gets a black or blank screen when booting....

yesterday, Nvidia updated their driver (nvidia-current) to version 290.10 Certified that fixed many bugs and regressions for amd64 systems, and amongst them :

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the driver from loading on some systems with integrated graphics.

Does it mean that now even though we do not install Bumblebee, if we install this update separately, we would be able to use the nvidia card ? Does it mean the nvidia card would be on boot recognized by X? A xinerama scenarion would be possible with an external monitor through the HDMI port connected by default on many systems to the nvidia card?

Thanks for your hints or answers
See: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-290.10-driver.html

I doubt it. nVidia Optimus simply does not work on Linux distributions because of the design of the X server which cannot handle it (yet). The issue that nvidia has fixed possibly applies to certain hybrid graphics setups with a hardware mux or detection of the nvidia card on certain muxless machines (https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/issues/149). (note: that's just speculation, I haven't tested the driver nor any reliable source for these changes)

See also the Additional Information tab:

Some designs incorporating supported GPUs may not be compatible with the NVIDIA Linux driver: in particular, notebook and all-in-one desktop designs with switchable (hybrid) or Optimus graphics will not work if means to disable the integrated graphics in hardware are not available. Hardware designs will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so please consult with a system's manufacturer to determine whether that particular system is compatible.
