When I turn the monitor on, I get an "input out of range", how do I fix this?

My computer was working fine a few days ago but now when I turn it on it displays:

input out of range

I don’t know what the problem is and have tried unplugging and plugging all the cords but it seems not to be working. I am fairly new to computers so easy instructions please.
