upgrade - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS failed to load session

I just upgraded from 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS.
After the reboot I see the same user I had with 12.04 but the previous password does not work. I wonder whether this behaviour is normal and I have to reset the password.
